Article summary

Description

You can use the Open Response module to obtain user responses in free text format from both SMS text and the Invisible App. User responses can be stored in Ushur variables. Validation of the variables can be performed based on the explicit or user-defined variable types. For example, if an open response is used to collect an email address from the user, the validation can be enforced based on the email format to ensure customers enter a valid email address.

Supported input types are generic strings, numeric strings, alphanumeric strings, fixed-length strings, fixed-length numeric strings, fixed-length alphanumeric strings, date, email, address, phone number, number ranges for integers, and floating numbers.

Application

A common use for the Open Response module would be to ask the user for a piece of information, such as their birthday, address, email address, or feedback.

Settings

The two basic settings in the Open Response module are:

  • Label: The label uniquely identifies this module inside the Ushur.

  • Message: Your message should be entered in the message block.

  • Variable/Validation: checks user input against the specified type in Validate or stores user input into a Ushur variable.

  • Error Text: This text is sent if the user input failed validation criteria.

  • Error Limit: Maximum number of times wrong input will be taken, before continuing.

Using these settings, you can take user input and store it in a Ushur variable through both an SMS text engagement and Invisible App Engagement.
